EARLY STAGE RESEARCHERS POSITIONS

A call for 6 PhD positions with three-year funding is open in the recently granted Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (MSCA-ITN) project DELIVER of advanced therapies for diabetes training network.

DELIVER is a European Industrial Doctorate programme coordinated by NUI Galway working to break insulin-dependency in juvenile diabetic patients. It provides training for 6 Early Stage Researchers in the field of advanced therapies for innovative pancreatic islet transplantation.

Advanced therapies are new medical products based on genes or cells, at times in symbiosis with medical devices. They herald revolutionary treatments for a number of chronic diseases including Alzheimer’s and cancer.

The DELIVER programme is a major interdisciplinary effort between cell biologists, experts in biomaterials, medical devices and advanced drug delivery, clinical experts and biotech and biomedical companies focused on academic training and spearheading innovative medical devices for insulin producing cell transplantation.

DELIVER is led by Prof. Garry Duffy (Anatomy, School of Medicine), along with his colleagues Dr. Eimear Dolan (Biomedical Engineering), Prof. Timothy O'Brien (REMEDI) and Dr. Esther O'Sullivan (UCHG).

The DELIVER partners join from 3 EU countries and are Academic (NUI Galway, Eberhard Karls Universitaet Tuebingen, and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin), Industry (Boston Scientific limited, Galway, Explora SRL, Rome) and Clinical (Niguarda Ca’ Granda Hospital, Milan) participants.
