José Luis obtained his PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Salamanca, Spain. He is Full Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). He co-founded, in 1997, and nowadays runs the Unit of Pharmaceutical Development (UPD). The main goal of the UPD Unit is the research and development of new pharmaceutical products according to standards of good laboratory, manufacturing and clinical practices (GLP, GMP and GCP respectively). Since 2007 he is an affiliated researcher of CIBER-BBN, and leader of NanoBioCel group. He leads also the Unit 10-Drug Formulation of NANBIOSIS.
His interest is focused on the development and evaluation of pharmaceutical dosage forms (microcapsules, micro and nanoparticles) for the administration of gene, proteins, peptides, vaccines, and cells. His vast experience in this field is recognized by the publication of 299 articles in high impact journals and 20 books and book articles. He is coauthor of 10 patents in the area of lipid nanoparticles, particles for vaccines, gene therapy and drug delivery and he has licensed one patent in formulation of semi-solid mucoadhesive. As a Principal Investigator, he will lead and coordinate all the different studies carried out by the NanoBioCel group in the DRIVE Project.
