Dr Jesús Ciriza

Jesús holds a PhD in Genetics and Development from the University of Zaragoza. He joined CIBER-BBN in late 2012, to work as a researcher of the NanoBioCel Group at the UPV/EHU. He is currently working on stem cell microencapsulation involving: optimization of stem cell microencapsulation techniques, study of new materials for stem cell microencapsulation and preclinical translation of microencapsulated stem cells among others.

Moreover, his experience is supported by over 10 research articles in first line scientific journals. He has previous experience in pancreatic islet isolation, differentiation of embryonic stem cells into insulin producing cells and kidney capsule transplantation on induced diabetic mice. He will contribute to the development, assessment and translation of DRIVE’s hydrogel technologies and will work on unlimited future sources of insulin-producing cells.
