Dr Heide Brandhorst
Senior Research Scientist,
Dr Heide Brandhorst has been working in the field of islet transplantation since 1986. She took the leading part in more than 350 porcine and 800 human islet isolations and participated in the establishment of the first German Islet Transplant Program at the University Hospital of Giessen, Germany, facilitating more than 100 clinical islet transplantations.
Her extensive experiences substantially contributed to the development of optimized enzyme blends for isolation of human islets. Currently, her efforts are focused on different strategies to improve survival and engraftment of islets exposed to hypoxia.
