Dr Daniel Brandhorst
Senior Research Scientist,
Dr Daniel Brandhorst has been working in the field of islet transplantation since 1986. He contributed to more than 350 porcine and 750 human islet isolations and participated in the establishment of the first German Islet Transplant Program at the University Hospital of Giessen, Germany, contributing to more than 100 clinical islet transplantations.
His experiences in pancreas preservation prior to islet isolation led to the development of biocompatible oxygen-carrying preservation media. Currently, his efforts are focused on different strategies to improve survival and engraftment of islets exposed to hypoxia.
